The short version
- You can use every calculator without creating an account or telling us who you are.
- We record anonymous usage events — which calculator you used, which project type, what result you got — to operate and improve the tools and to understand aggregate demand.
- If you type a ZIP code to search for rentals, we record that ZIP code together with the recommended size so we can understand where demand exists. A ZIP code is not linked to your name, account or device identity.
- We never ask your browser for your precise location.
- We don’t sell personal information and we don’t run advertising trackers.
What we collect
Usage events
When you use a calculator we record milestone events such as viewing a calculator, choosing a project type, completing a step, generating a result, opening the methodology, and clicking a source. Each event includes the page path, the calculator name, the anonymous inputs and results involved (for example “roof replacement, 2,000 sq ft, 2 layers, 20-yard”), whether the screen is phone- or desktop-sized, and a random session identifier that lives only in your browser tab and resets when you close it.
Site search and calculator requests
If you search for a calculator on the homepage we record the text you typed. If you ask us to build a calculator we record that request. This is how we decide what to build next.
Rental search
If you enter a ZIP code and click “Search rentals”, we record the ZIP code, the recommended size, the project type and the estimated volume and weight, then open a Google search in a new tab. Google’s own privacy policy applies from that point.
Corrections
If you send a correction we store your message, the calculator it concerns and, only if you provide it, your email address so we can reply. We use that email for the reply and nothing else.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, browser type, requested page) to operate and secure the service.
What we don’t collect
- No account, name, phone number or payment details.
- No precise device location (GPS or browser geolocation). You type a ZIP code yourself if you want one used.
- No cross-site advertising cookies, fingerprinting or third-party trackers.
- No keystroke-level recording. We record milestones, not everything you type.
Why we collect it
To operate the calculators, to understand aggregate usage, to improve the tools and fix mistakes, and to understand where and for what people need calculators so we can build the right ones next.
Cookies and storage
We don’t set tracking cookies. The site uses your browser’s session storage for a random session identifier that is discarded when the tab closes.
Who we share with
Usage data is stored with our hosting and database providers, who process it on our behalf. Google receives the search query you choose to open. We don’t sell or rent personal information. We may share aggregate, non-identifying statistics (for example “most-requested calculators”).
Retention
Usage events and requests are kept as long as they are useful for product research. Correction emails are deleted once the correction is resolved, unless you ask us to keep in touch.
Your choices
You can use the calculators without entering a ZIP code or an email. To ask what we hold that relates to you, or to have it deleted, email hello@calcbrite.com.
Changes
If this policy changes we’ll update the effective date above. Material changes will be noted on this page.
